I’ll be hosting the Saturday Night Sports Special on 98.3 WOW FM on April 16th and 23rd next month! So get your radio TiVos ready…
Who ya got tomorrow? My money’s on Kansas beating VCU and North Carolina beating Kentucky.
Download my show from this past weekend! You can find it on iTunes by searching “SNSS with Joel Fry.”
Moving is hard.
So I was 3-for-8 yesterday. Went from Postseason Prophet to March Madness Moron in a matter of hours. Got screwed over by refs (like about 92% of America did… am I right?). But it’s a brand new day, so here are some brand new pics!
-(7) Washington over (2) UNC
-(1) Duke over (8) Michigan
-(1) Ohio State over (8) George Mason
-(4) Texas over (5) Arizona
-(11) VCU over (3) Purdue
-(3) Syracuse over (11) Marquette
-(1) Kansas over (9) Illinois
-(10) Florida State over (2) Notre Dame
So I’m changing my tune on a couple of games after thinking it over last night. Following my show, I slowly started to like FSU’s chances against the Fighting Irish more and more… in fact, I think they are absolutely in prime position to upset ND in the late game tonight. We shall see!
I was 23-for-32 in the first round. Pretty good! My Final Four is still intact, so I’m happy.
That said, a couple of my regions are DESTROYED. I’ll be posting my very final bracket after the tourney is over so all the readers and listeners can criticize me. But… my Final Four is still intact. So neener neener neener.
-(5) West Virginia over (4) Kentucky
-(7) UCLA over (2) Florida
-(13) Morehead St. over (12) Richmond
-(2) San Diego St. over (7) Temple
-(1) Pittsburgh over (8) Butler
-(3) BYU over (11) Gonzaga
-(5) Kansas St. over (4) Wisconsin
-(3) UCONN over (6) Cincinnati
You know what’s weird? Even though I picked San Diego St. to meet Temple in this round in my bracket, AND I picked San Diego St. to beat Temple in this round… I’m not very confident in the selection. I don’t know what it is about Temple, but I seriously think they can (and possible will) upset SDST. But I gotta stick by my bracket.
After a pretty solid Day One, I fully anticipate taking my picking success to a new level on Day Two. Here’s what I see when I look into my crystal ball:
-(4) Texas over (13) Oakland
-(9) Tennessee over (8) Michigan
-(2) Notre Dame over (15) Akron
-(8) George Mason over (9) Villanova
-(12) Memphis over (5) Arizona
-(1) Duke over (16) Hampton
-(10) Florida St. over (7) Texas A&M
-(1) Ohio State over (16) Texas-San Antonio
-(1) Kansas over (16) Boston U
-(2) North Carolina over (15) Long Island
-(14) St. Peter’s over (3) Purdue
-(6) Xavier over (11) Marquette
-(9) Illinois over (8) UNLV
-(10) Georgia over (7) Washington
-(6) Georgetown over (11) VCU
-(3) Syracuse over (14) Indiana St.
LOTS more unpredicability in Day Two. I have a 14 over a 3, my 2nd 12 over a 5, and two 10’s beating 7’s. The game I’m least sure about? Obviously, I’m going with a gut reaction with St. Pete’s-Purdue. I naturally wouldn’t be surprised if I missed this one, but something about Purdue gives me little confidence in them as a club. Sure, they’ll get out of the first round (or so you think!), but they won’t go far this March.
So you don’t think I’m lying when this totally turns out to be true and my genius is proven, here’s my Final Four: UCONN-OSU, UCLA-Kansas.
The REAL NCAA Tournament starts on St. Patty’s Day. Here’s who I got advancing:
-(5) West Virginia over (12) Clemson
-(8) Butler over (9) Old Dominian
-(4) Louisville over (13) Old Dominion
-(7) Temple over (10) Penn State
-(4) Kentucky over (13) Princeton
-(1) Pitt over (16) UNC-Ashville
-(5) Vanderbilt over (12) Richmond
-(2) San Diego State over (15) Northern Colorado
-(2) Florida over (15) UC Santa Barbara
-(3) BYU over (14) Wofford (who?)
-(3) UCONN over (14) Bucknell
-(4) Wisconsin over (13) Belmont
-(7) UCLA over (10) Michigan St.
-(11) Gonzaga over (6) St. John’s
-(6) Cincy over (11) Missouri
-(12) Utah St. over (5) Kansas St.
So, yeah, a few surprises. Something in me wants to take Penn State, but 7-10 matchups have NEVER been my strong suit. So I went chalk.
Every year, the 12-5 game destroys (f***ing destroys) peoples’ brackets when a 12 overtakes a 5. This has become an annual custom. My Utah St.-over-KSU pick doesn’t even ring genuine with ME, but I had to take one underdog in a 12-5 game this tourney, and they’re the one (albeit the only).
Just so I can’t backtrack and say I had some other teams in it all along, here is my Final Four:
Ohio St. - UCONN
Kansas - UCLA
And here’s my NCAA Championship prediction:
Kansas over UCONN
Iowa City’s a great little town!

I’m not one for hyperbole, but the Heat are the worst team in the history of basketball ever.
